Areas represent specific locations within a facility where units can be found, such as an aisle, shelf, floor section, yard, or cabinet. Setting up multiple areas helps users locate items precisely. Areas are typically identified with a barcoded label (called a handle, a barcoded label identifier, in Panatracker) so they can be scanned during move transactions.

Tip: If you don't have areas defined yet, start with a generic area for each facility. You can add more specific areas later and move units into their actual locations over time.
Add New Area

Prerequisite: Before adding areas, define your area templates. Templates set rules and categorize area types (e.g., stock area vs. staging area). See Area Templates for details.
Make sure you are logged in under the facility you are adding areas for. Navigate to Locations on the left menu and select Area. The grid view displays areas for your current facility. Select [Add New].
Add Area form- Facility: Defaults to your current facility. If your team has multiple facilities, you can select a different one.
- Parent Area: Optionally set up tiered areas. For example, "Section A" as a parent with specific shelf locations underneath. Most organizations don't need this level of complexity.
- Template: Select the template for the area. The selected template remains defaulted for adding additional areas.
- Area ID: The unique identifier (handle) for the area, typically barcoded.
- Description: A generic or detailed description of the area.
Example Area IDs and Descriptions:
| Area ID | Description |
| A-R01-S01 | Aisle A - Rack 1 - Shelf 1 |
| DD-01 | Dock Door 1 |
| CABINET-01 | Cabinet 01 |
Enter any additional area attributes defined in the template, then select [Create] to add the area. The new area appears at the top of the grid view.
Edit Area
Under Locations on the left menu, select Area. In the grid view, select Edit from the more options menu.
More Options - EditEditable fields include the description and any area attribute fields. Note that the Area ID and Template cannot be changed after the area is created.
