Within Dynamics GP, a Default Bin can be assigned to an item for each site. This is ideal when all items have a single designated location within your warehouse or stockroom.
From the PanatrackerGP mobile interface, this bin designation displays as read-only. With default bin setup:
Enabling multi-bins in GP (Inventory > Setup > Inventory Control) allows you to set up multiple bin locations for each site and maintain inventory levels for the same item in multiple locations.
With multi-bin enabled, you can designate bins based on various transactions:
These can be configured at the site level or for individual items. For example:
Priority bins provide additional control:
Multi-bin tracking provides:
Note: Without mobile and barcode technology, multi-bin tracking is difficult to manage. PanatrackerGP enables maximum efficiency for multi-bin inventory management.
If you're already using inventory in Dynamics GP, plan and coordinate the multi-bin enablement process. Work with your Dynamics GP partner and follow this checklist:
Plan your bin setup — Use a logical sort order for bins. Space numbering to accommodate future bin additions. Start with larger areas if possible. You can add bins later, but removing existing bins is difficult.
Post all inventory transactions — Ensure all adjustments and site transfers are posted. When you enable multi-bins, run inventory reconcile and check links in GP. This creates an "autocreate" bin as default if any transactions are pending.
Assign existing inventory to bins — After adding bins to GP, use the PanatrackerGP application to assign existing inventory to bin locations. We recommend using the bin move transaction to move items from the autocreate bin to their new locations.
Handle sites without multiple bins — Even sites without multiple bin locations need a bin setup, and all transactions require a bin assignment. Many customers create a bin with the same name as the site for this scenario.
