Printer Installation for Automated Printing from the Cloud and no VPN

For automated printing to work with PanatrackerGP when you are in the cloud and do not have a VPN, you must configure port forwarding to allow the cloud server to communicate with your on-site printer.

Requirements

To set up automated printing from the cloud without a VPN, the following must be configured:

  1. Static IP address — The printer must have a static IP address
  2. Port forwarding — The external firewall must be set up to forward an external port to port 9100 of the printer's IP address
  3. Printer installation — Using your public IP address and the forwarded external port, install the printer on both the Remote Desktop Server and the server that hosts PanatrackerGP

Example Setup

XYZ Company has a public IP address of 172.12.36.227, with an external port of 55591.

Configuration Steps

  1. Configure firewall port forwarding — Set the external port 55591 on XYZ Company's firewall to forward to the printer's IP address over port 9100 (the port printers listen on for print requests).

  2. Install the printer — Install the printer on the server using the IP address 172.12.36.227 and port 55591.

Any print requests made to the printer will be sent over the Internet to XYZ Company's printer on-site.

How it Works

This configuration creates a secure pathway for print jobs to travel from your cloud-hosted PanatrackerGP server to your on-site label printer without requiring a full VPN connection. The firewall port forwarding rule directs incoming traffic on the specified external port directly to the printer's internal IP address and standard printing port.
