GP Modern Lifecycle policy and PanatrackerGP adapter versions

PanatrackerGP uses internal Dynamics GP version numbers (such as "18.x") to identify adapter compatibility with Dynamics GP Modern Lifecycle releases. This approach provides clear version references for installation and support.

Microsoft's Modern Lifecycle Policy

Beginning with the October 2019 release, Microsoft includes Dynamics GP in their Modern Lifecycle Policy. This policy offers users continuous support, new features, bug fixes, and tax updates through ongoing releases delivered in June, October, and November/December. To receive full product support from Microsoft, customers need to be on one of the versions of Dynamics GP released that year. More information is available at Microsoft's Dynamics GP lifecycle documentation.

Version Naming Challenges

A side-effect of the Modern Lifecycle policy is that the released product is now referred to simply as "Microsoft Dynamics GP" rather than the previous familiar names that indicated clear version numbers (such as "Dynamics GP 10" or "Dynamics GP 2018"). Microsoft's current product naming creates confusion for partners, ISVs, and customers. Many in the GP community now refer to the product as "Dynamics GP (October 2020)", but this approach fails to offer a recognizable version number for support and add-on products. To address this confusion, many have resorted to referring to the product using the internal version number (such as "18.2") that appears in the user interface and code units.

PanatrackerGP Adapter Naming Convention

PanatrackerGP now refers to the internal Dynamics GP version number for installation and integration reporting for Modern Lifecycle versions. Newly released versions tag adapters using naming such as "PanatrackerGP for DynamicsGP v18.x". Adapters for older Fixed Policy products (such as Dynamics GP 2016) remain unchanged. You will see these names within the portal's System Status page, in exception notification emails, and during the installation process.

This naming convention affects only adapter references to Dynamics GP, not the PanatrackerGP product version itself. As Dynamics GP continues to evolve, PanatrackerGP will continue to evolve alongside it.
