How do I change a handheld to access PanatrackerGP via an IP address rather than a DNS name?
In some environments, handheld devices cannot reliably resolve DNS names, which prevents communication with the PanatrackerGP portal. Switching to the server's IP address resolves this issue.
Step 1: Remove the Device from the Portal
The device must be deleted first because it will re-authenticate with the portal after rebuilding its database, and this authentication fails if the device record already exists.
- Log in to your PanatrackerGP Portal.
- Navigate to the Devices page and locate the device.
- Click the Delete button to the left of the device and confirm the prompt.
Step 2: Delete the Config File on the Handheld
- Open the Start menu on the handheld.
- Navigate to File Explorer.
- Select My Device from the drop-down menu at the top of the screen.
- Open the Application Data folder, then open the Panatrack folder.
- Press and hold the stylus on the file named ConfigV7 (or DataV6) and select Delete from the pop-up menu.
Step 3: Reconfigure the Handheld
- Restart the PanatrackerGP application on the handheld.
- When prompted, enter the server's IP address in the Server field.
- After the device displays a message that it has not yet been activated, refresh the Devices page on your portal.
- Click Edit next to the device, check Active, and assign the desired profile.
- Click OK, then continue on the handheld. You should now reach the PanatrackerGP Main Menu.
