Why does the web portal show the same IP address for my handhelds?

Why does the web portal show the same IP address for my handhelds?

Cause

When multiple handhelds show the same IP address in the PanatrackerGP web portal, they are likely connecting through a Network Address Translation (NAT) device or proxy server. Common scenarios include:

  • Handhelds connecting through a wireless access point with NAT enabled
  • Devices behind a corporate firewall
  • Connection through a VPN or proxy server

Why This Happens

NAT devices translate multiple private IP addresses to a single public IP address. The portal sees only the public-facing IP address of the NAT device, not the individual private IP addresses of each handheld.

Impact

This behavior is normal and doesn't affect PanatrackerGP functionality. Each handheld is still uniquely identified by:

  • Device ID
  • Device name
  • User authentication

The IP address display is primarily for informational and troubleshooting purposes.

Viewing Individual Handheld Information

To distinguish between handhelds in the portal:

  1. Use the Device Name or Device ID column for identification.
  2. Check the Last Sync timestamp to see recent activity.
  3. Review the User assignment for each device.

If you need to identify individual IP addresses for network troubleshooting, check the handheld's network settings directly on the device.
